ReImagine JAMESVILLE
Welcome to a new Jamesville.
Downtown Hamilton is changing to reflect the demand for more housing and pedestrian-friendly neighbourhoods. Jamesville will be no exception – a mixed-income community in the City’s North End that is accessible, inclusive and welcoming. Help us reimagine what the new Jamesville neighbourhood will look like.
About
A competition to provide the greatest affordability and social benefit.
The City of Hamilton’s social housing provider, CityHousing Hamilton (CHH), owns the Jamesville site and has created a competition to provide the greatest affordability and community benefit. Through a public offering process, CHH selected a team that is now known as the Qualified Preferred Proponent and is negotiating to finalize the agreement together. The community engagement process is beginning with ReImagine Jamesville.
Vision
A transformation into a mixed-income, live, walk, bike, thrive neighbourhood.
CHH, together with the Jamesville Redevelopment Limited Partnership and Indwell, envision a mixed-income development that supports and strengthens the North End through quality high-performance homes designed into a pedestrian focused site. A development that increases affordable housing while incorporating new private market housing in a way that fosters interactions among residents. A low and mid-rise community that promotes connectivity, inviting the neighbourhood in to enjoy privately owned public spaces. A place where residents can live rich and productive lives near the water and downtown Hamilton, and be connected to our regional transportation network.
Location
A transit-oriented site in a vibrant community.
Located in a vibrant neighbourhood, Jamesville is well positioned with many amenities, most notably the expansive natural spaces of the waterfront, as well as a health centre, community centre, arena, schools, connections to a revitalizing downtown via a flagship retail street, as well as access to major transit connections. As a neighbourhood undergoing socio-economic change, the continued provision and increase of affordable housing in Jamesville is critical to allowing for a mixed-income community. It will ensure access to valuable amenities for vulnerable and at-risk low-income residents, while adding density at a key transit-oriented location.
Team
A collaboration between experienced affordable housing and private market developers.
